Welcome to our Relationslips
information page!

So what’s it all about?

It’s another comedy play by Chris Sandiford and Sara Morris

Love is in the air! But sometimes on the floor. The ups and downs of everyday relationships is brought sharply into focus through a humorous lens in this brand new comedy play.

Pensioners John and Hilary, lifelong members of the Phoenix Amateur Theatre Group have found love in the Autumn of their lives and have decided to tie the knot.

But as you'd expect, not everything goes smoothly, surrounded by their friends who aren't really setting the best of examples with all their squabbles, fallings out, misunderstandings and arguments. If relationships were ever to be tested, none of them would pass!

We first met the Phoenix characters in If It's Not One Thing It's The Mother in 2018 and this is a loose "sequel" which picks up on those same characters but is unrelated to the first story, so it can be enjoyed by everyone. It explores the themes that test all of our connected lives from time to time. Raising kids, jealousy, dishonesty, love and trust can all cause friction but if our bonds are strong, surely we can overcome them and be even stronger? We're sure you'll find some connection yourselves with our characters as they fall in and out of love and friendship!

Who’s in it?

Hopefully you, if you’re successful! But here’s the full cast of characters.

Rather than running individual auditions, we’ve picked some scenes in which we can audition a few people at once, to see how everyone interacts. Beneath each character is a list of audition packs with a short character bio. Some may seem long but don’t worry! Every character has at least one feature scene in blue with a fair amount of dialogue but also appear in supplementary scenes in white with just a few lines. You don’t need to learn everything, just have a read through and get to know the character(s) you’re going to try out for. All characters are colour-coded per scene.
